Ansiedade social e assimetria de ondas alfa do lobo frontal em eletroencefalograma (EEG): uma revisão sistemática

Resumo

O Transtorno de Ansiedade Social (TAS) é caracterizado por um medo excessivo de julgamento em situações sociais. Uma das alterações fisiológicas que pode estar presente nesse quadro é a assimetria de ondas alfa no lobo frontal do córtex cerebral. A presente revisão foi realizada a partir de uma busca por estudos que relacionam TAS e assimetria de alfa através da ferramenta de busca Google Acadêmico. Os descritores usados foram “social anxiety”, “alpha waves”, “brain waves asymmetry”, “alpha asymmetry”, “frontal lobe” e “EEG asymmetry”. No total, oito estudos atendiam aos critérios da busca e estão detalhados neste artigo. De modo geral, artigos corroboram a ideia de que ansiedade social se relaciona à predominância de ondas alfa no hemisfério esquerdo. O mecanismo causal por trás desse padrão seria a inativação, associada a ondas alfa, do córtex pré-frontal esquerdo, que teria um importante papel na regulação emocional dos estados de ansiedade. A assimetria frontal de ondas alfa pode, portanto, vir a se tornar um parâmetro útil para diagnóstico e monitoramento dos quadros de TAS. Sugestões para futuras pesquisas são feitas a partir da detecção de algumas deficiências presentes nos estudos atuais.
