CULTIVATING FOR THE BENEFIT OF SOCIALLY VULNERABLE FAMILIES

Abstract

Hunger can occur as a result of historical events, whether political, social or economic, where people affected by inequality and social vulnerability suffer even more from the impact of hunger and food insecurity in the world. The objective of this extension project is to collect non-perishable food to produce basic food baskets and later donate them to families in situations of social vulnerability in the municipality of Sousa-PB. To this end, ornamental plant seedlings were produced in the seedling nursery of the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Paraíba (IFPB) Campus Sousa, where students of the agroecology course were the main protagonists, putting into practice knowledge acquired in the classroom, in addition to contributing to the completion of all stages of the project and finally in the holding of the exchange fair. The activity highlights the importance of solidarity, promoting collective well-being, by helping the needy population and those who are socially vulnerable. Furthermore, it enabled the practical application of the theoretical knowledge acquired by students in the classroom, contributing to the improvement of seedling production techniques and the development of essential skills.
